Having some performance issues. My app-config file reads:

<app_config>
<app>
<name>amicable_10_20</name>
<max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.50</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

Status shows "Running (1 CPU + 0.5 NVIDIA GPUs)
I have 4 WU's running, two per GPU.
Not seeing much difference between 21 or 23 Kernel size for NVIDIA GPUs.
I'm running two Xeon E5-2697 V2 set to use at most 75%.
My GPU's, GTX 1080 FE, are practically idling at load of 17% per GPU-Z.

Any thoughts?

Reduce kernel size, run as many WUs per GPU as possible. 8 WUs per GPU should be good enough to load it.

At two WU's per GPU does 1 hours 37 min 26 sec per task seem typical for a GTX 1080?

What should we reduce it to?

You can reduce kernel size in your project preferences: https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/prefs.php?subset=project

The problem is you then need more CPU cores. I'm running graphics cards that can do 16 WU at a time at a 22 kernel but I don't have the CPU cores to support it. So I have it set to 23 and can run 11 on a 12 CPU core machine.

That wasn't the question. Please read the question.

The conversation was about maximizing utilization, and one way to do that is by running more WUs and reducing kernel size. Your question wasn't very clear. Given the context and direction of the conversation would would assume the anonymous "it" would refer to kernel size and not utilization. My apologies.

A good start to reducing utilization would simply be to run fewer WUs at a reduced kernel size. It's up to you do decide how low is acceptable.

What are the error results of WU's when you attempt to run more WU than the CPU cores can handle?

Is it error -58? (see: https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/forum_thread.php?id=156&postid=1106#1106)

No, no errors., Just slow and pegs my CPU.

Right now I'm running 44 WU across 4 GPU's on a 48 CPU core machine. No errors.
