A giant thank you to everyone who participated in this Formula Boinc sprint! You have given the project a very nice boost towards the end of 10^20 and the beginning of 10^21.

For anyone interested in sticking around; the CPU applications should trend towards greater efficiency as we approach the end of the 10^20 portion of the project, however the GPU applications will not change significantly from where they are now until we reach 10^21. Once we reach the end of this stage and begin the search up to 10^21 the GPU applications should once again be very efficient (I was at approximately 4,000,000 credit per day with an RTX 2070 before it became CPU-bound), and a single task should fully utilize any GPU with only a fraction of a CPU core to support it.

Thanks again!

About when is that due to happen?

Hi Beyond,

That is somewhat of a difficult question to answer, as there are a lot of variables, but we can calculate it based on present values and it will probably be fairly close to reality, as long as there are no major changes.

To reach the end of this stage we need to get the Large Prime Workunits to 5.00E18, and we are presently at approximately 1.77E18, leaving 3.23E18 to go. In the past 48 hours we have moved 5.95E16, for a rate of ~3E16/day. Assuming that participation stays the same and that there are no significant changes in workunit efficiency, this leaves us with 108 days of crunching to reach 5.00E18.

I am expecting a trend towards greater CPU efficiency, although I am also expecting that participation levels will decline slightly. With luck, these two predictions will balance out.

In summary; best guess: somewhere around Sept. 13, 2019.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Kellen

P.S. There is a projected month of completion on the Project Status page, and it does seem to be in line with these calculations; predicting sometime in August 2019.
