I have just started doing this project and have completed about 300K units in the last 20 days. I now have a unit with a predicted run time of 43,682 days, i.e. a 119 years give or take. Guess I should just return this unit??

Welcome to the project. How many hours has the task been running for? If you can complete it it would be ideal, if you don't think it's going to be completed by the deadline feel free to abort the task and move on to next one.
I am reasonably confident it will not take 119 years to complete

Unfortunately there's no way to detect such long tasks until they are actually run. Part of the filtering includes trial division of the larger number in a pair and it can be significantly slower sometimes if many numbers in the range don't have small factors. The range is set for the smaller number in a pair so it's impossible to know in advance what prime factors will be in the larger number.

yeah i recently have gotten some huge estimates for completion. According to the current estimate , it says it will be 7,438 days to complete. My hardware is not that bad.

If it was me I would let it run for a a few hours or the same amount of time that previous tasks have run as the time may decrease to a realistic value. If you don't think it will reach its deadline feel free to abort

If it runs for too long, you can abort it. I'll split all huge tasks into smaller ones and reissue them.

I have this CPU task amicable_10_21_3826_1631346902.320575_148 that runs for 23 hours already. It estimates to finish in 6 days after. My wingman with an RTX 2070 Super just took 6.3 minutes to finish, and my other tasks are usually 2-3 hours long on 4 threads.
It is progressing (13.1%), but very slowly.

In the future tasks/work units may need to be made shorter. Task 43106107 took 2 hours 33 minutes 34 seconds on a RTX 2070. Is this too long for a 2070 GPU? If it's any assistance I am running Windows 10 professional 21 H1

I'm seeing a lot of multi-hour-long GPU WUs lately. I have one that's been running for 17 hours on an RTX 2060 (three tasks in tandem, admittedly) and it's barely at 50%. Is this to be expected more and more going forward? Any plans to update the credit system to address the task size disparity?

I can also back this up. Some tasks are bouncing around in terms of GPU load from 74% right up to 98% particular task I am referring to is 45999950 ran for 1 hour 22 minutes and 36 seconds have also noticed tasks seem to speed up near the end, have you noticed this?
The longest task I have had recently is 45994289 it ran for 1 hour 29 minutes and 6 seconds. All of these tasks in a on a RTX 2070 on Windows 11
It appears that is not the case I thought if a task ran slower there were pairs in it, my pairs discovered have not increased for a long time. I will also be interested to hear if credit will be adjusted to accommodate longer running tasks

I have the same issue. When I am using one of my machines, I will check BOINC. If I see a multi-hour GPU task running I usually abort it in the hope of getting a normal WU. Obviously, not feasible to monitor my machines 24/7. Anyone able to create a prefs file?

I got a batch of 5 WUs today (as I asked) and two have been aborted already, too much time needed.

With a GTX 1650 I can say that 1hour is something acceptable, 1h30, but past that it begins to be very long.

Usually, if it doesn't goes forward within the minute following the RAM being filled, it's a bad sign.

I'll see how the next three WUs will be and then decide to move to another project waiting to acquire better computer parts to crunch.

I agree some tasks are long. I will process whatever I am given to help the project out. Hopefully the longer tasks will be made shorter

This is temporary, the project is processing the last of 2³*13*... numbers where there are more numbers to check per each task. The 2³*11^k*... range will start soon.

Thanks for letting us know what's happening. With more numbers to search within each task this may increase the chances of discovering more pairs

I was very surprised to see the GPU utilisation was between 90/95% Out of complete curiosity what is the criteria for a long running task to receive more than the normal credit?
