Amicable Numbers was chosen for the next Pentathlon event. 5/12-5/17. Be prepared for a lot more traffic at that project and possible issues due to a huge amount of extra load.

It's a 6-core dedicated machine with 64 GB RAM, but the problem is the slow spinning HDD there, sorry! I turned off all non-essential background services, hope it will help.

There is only one essential service right now. Validation.

The work that has already been completed and turned in needs to take full priority, to ensure fair results in the Pentathlon, especially for the smaller or newer teams. The larger teams know we always break something. :) The new guys will just blame you instead.

Anyway, good luck, and get a freaking SSD already. :P

Why would a silly contest take full priority? Are you important?

I agree on the ssd. :)

The silly contest has gotten a whole lot of silly work accomplished here.

Nothing else but validator and scheduler is turned on now, but HDD just can't keep up. It didn't happen in the previous two years, I don't know why it's happening now.

What's the health status on the HDD? Could it be going bad?

I've checked RAID status with mdadm and it's all fine. It seems to be just a high load because of too short WUs.

Ahhhh. The joy of having incredibly powerful GPUs entering the market every year or so... :)

I know you feel bad about it, so thanks for working so hard to fix the problem, and letting us know the details.

I don't know the capacity of your RAID array, so SSD(s) may be cost prohibitive for a short term problem. Is this one situation where that weird SSD thing Intel created could be of use? Optane, I think it is called.

Why not just suspend new work and scheduler and let the validator run alone with no interference. Hell, I'd even suspend uploads too. No connections or nothing to bottleneck anything. Let them Pendings for everyone clear.

It looks like the validation queue will be cleared by the end of today.
