Message 2179 - Posted: 25 Jan 2026, 18:16:00 UTC

Hello, sorry if my question has already been asked elsewhere.
How is it that calculations remain stuck in "validation pending" status when two results have been returned for several hours?

Thank you

Completed tasks pile up when they arrive faster than the server can process them. This is what's happening now - it's 5+ hours backlog at the moment.

It looks like a BOINCStats challenge issued today has triggered a significant increase in crunching on behalf of Amicable: https://www.boincstats.com/stats/challenge/team/chat/1132

Thank you for the update. Hopefully with the server piled up we won't miss out on credit because of the deadline being missed? I feel this is an unlikely scenario

No it is only 5.02 hours behind from my perspective.
Where are you getting the information that it is almost a whole day behind? I do agree my pending validations are over 400 at the moment
Over the past 20 hours there has been an increase of nearly 3 TFLOPS https://grafana.kiska.pw/d/boinc/boinc?orgId=1&var-project=Amicable which will explain the reason for comment. above regarding increase to pending results

What I am saying is that it took more than 5 hours after task submission before it was validated.

There is a Sprint challenge for Formula BOINC that started on the 12th, so also could be likely it was an influx of people dropping their bunkers when Amicable wasn't picked for the Sprint.

Appreciate the information. May I ask where you can find out when a formula Boinc challenge is taking place? In the event you are referring to https://formula-boinc.org/ I cannot understand how to interpret what challenge is taking place. Yes I have changed to English language Nevermind I have found the new site https://www.formulaboinc.org/index.py?division=1&standing=team&race=4

FYI, have a bunch of work units pending validation since Mar 4th. By tomorrow, these will be exactly 3 weeks. Here are some of them from one of my PCs.

Some of my wingmen's PCs are even older.

It would be epic not to get any credit for the short time of a sprint.
117k WUs to validate having only 9k in progress - that looks not optimistic.

Running a sprint without asking the project administrator first means it's their problem now, not my problem. The backlog is clearing now and will clear in 2-3 days.

Agreed. I'll post something about that on their forum later. Thanks for the info.
It should be an interesting sprint anyway - racing with the validator )) I'm in.

Hi, could I ask what might have caused the sudden increase in task computation time?
On my systems, it went from 480 seconds to 2475 seconds on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super, and from 88 to 290 seconds on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.
I’m seeing the same sharp increase in runtime across other systems as well.

I increased task size 4 times to reduce the load on the server. Points per task are also increased 4 times.

The "waiting for validation" number is going down steadily now. I've re-enabled task generation, but all tasks will be 4 times bigger now (and 4x the points) to reduce the load on the server.

For what it's worth I am getting around 5 minutes 13 seconds 313 seconds limiting my 4090 to 320 W

Sorry, but it seems there is still something strange with the task validation: I have completed around 800 GPU tasks in the past 2 days using a Blackwell 6000 Pro, an RTX 3080 and an AMD R9700 AI Pro.
Of all of these tasks, only a single one has been (successfully) validated - the rest sits in the queue waiting for validation.
WHILE MY TEAMMATES CONSTANTLY RECEIVE CREDITS, I just see the credit for that single WU.
Somehow it seems that this contradicts a random task validation approach.
Moreover, it indicates that not a single task of these itself is a validation WU of someone else's task - statistically quite unlikely as well...
So, what is going on?
Did I overlook something?

Michael.

Validation is not random, but there is no fixed order and it's unpredictable. Until the backlog clears, things like this can happen.
