Well, (re)activating the only available application in the project preference is a great idea !

(shame, shame)

I'm not saying it's not working, I'm saying I cannot get any tasks, my boinc is setup to receive tasks from Amicable, my machine is set on default preferences and only CPU is disabled, GPU is enabled, but nothing.

Dim 14 avr 17:29:12 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Requesting new tasks for AMD/ATI GPU
Dim 14 avr 17:29:13 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

It's been like that for almost one week. I had not crunched on Amicable for a long time.

My GPU is

Dim 14 avr 17:28:06 2024 | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT Compute Engine (driver version 1.2 (Oct 10 2023 22:45:12), device version OpenCL 1.2, 16368MB, 16368MB available, 4797 GFLOPS peak)

it is in the list that Tigers_Dave mentions as having completed tasks, so why can't I get any :(

Hello it seems there is no GPU task for macOS ?

I can see the apps have been upgraded 3 days ago including macOS, maybe you didn't open the flow for mac because you have no tester ?

Hi

Any idea why I can't get any GPU work for iMac AMD (I only enabled GPU) ?

Dim 7 avr 17:59:19 2024 | Amicable Numbers | update requested by user
Dim 7 avr 17:59:26 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
Dim 7 avr 17:59:26 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Requesting new tasks for AMD/ATI GPU
Dim 7 avr 17:59:27 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Dim 7 avr 17:59:27 2024 | Amicable Numbers | Project requested delay of 7 seconds

I looks like there is work available and my preferences seem fine.

Thanks.

OBTW Mac Users....

BOINC Version 7.24.3 Recommended version (MacOS 10.13+)

Was released on 30 Jan 2024

This version fixes a problem that causes GPU apps to fail after a Mac OS upgrade to Sonoma

Bill F

Yep I've seen that but I've been with Sonoma for quite a good time and I don't think I've had issue with GPU tasks (AFAIK), so maybe the problem only applies to certains projects/tasks/conditions ?

I've not upgraded my boinc yet, but thanks for the info anyway.

For this I'd need more test tasks (they are all consumed now) and be at home to play with app_config.

I can see 10,277 GigaFLOPS were generated for 3.06 (opencl_amd) macOS after you generated the tasks, so it's nice to see effective test data have been crunched :)

Thanks ! I got 4 of them, behaviour is consistent

- full CPU at beginning (during 1mn)
- less than 10% average CPU usage (of one CPU thread)
- above 80% average of GPU use
- 2.5 GB of RAM used
- 30% of 16 GB GPU memory used
- stable over time
- first one completed successfully after 16mn

I let the mac crunch only on these for the moment (I suspended primegrid).

OK thanks for the feedback, happy to see it is not an issue and it is helping the project !

Hopefully then I do find some of these pairs, because as credit is concerned a 21 hours task awards the same as a 30mn task...

Bloody hell I just found out I got another one that took 21 hours to complete, the other cruncher who got it took less than half the time to perform (but still it was 8 hours run).

Most of the tasks take from 40mn to 1h20 I would say, with some "peak" tasks around 2 hours from time to time, I only got 3 very long ones in the past week : 12h, 7h and now 21h.

Needless to say my RAC is falling down the black hole...

I had another one than ran 7 hours and then it went down again, very variable though, maybe "globally longer" than before but I should compile data to confirm this feeling.

Today I had a GPU task that ran for 12 hours, and at the moment I have another one almost running for 5 hours / 65% completion...

I have nothing else running on my mac, before this the tasks were taking between 30mn and 1h to complete.

Anyone else experiencing the same ?

Thanks for the answer.

Fun fact : that amicable WU did finish in the night, followed by several others, and now it turns out that for some reason it decided to run amicable in "high priority" mode (strange because they all take around 1 hour to complete and it still has 2 days before deadline...) and guess what, now boinc did set the primegrid tasks on pause.

It's priority war :)

I found one clue :

While boinc manager shows the primegring taks running "normally", boinctasks shows them running with high priority, there's probably a link .

Hi

When starting, Amicable latest CPU mt app (1.2) doesn't suspend all running WUs on my Mac !

The Primegrid tasks are still running, but the numberfields + duchamp did suspend correctly when amicable started.

I tried to suspend manually the primegrid tasks then release them, but the same happens.

So obviously they are sharing the CPU, each primegrid is using half of one thread, and amicable is using what's left of the CPU...
