I've got some big ones too - cancelled a few, but one that got done took 2 days https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/result.php?resultid=35476847

My usual runtime is around 2 hours.

Oops.. looks like having it set at 16 makes it not work as well. Changing it to 19 or 20 helped, but brought machine to a crawl.

I looked at these two recently completed WU:
https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/workunit.php?wuid=13407446
https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/workunit.php?wuid=13407136
https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/workunit.php?wuid=13403818

My computer is the one spending an order of magnitude more CPU time on them. The last one and I have the same video card.

I'm guessing it could be a Windows vs Linux bug? (Although mine shows NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (1977MB) driver: 440.64 OpenCL: 1.2 vs theirs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (2048MB) driver: 442.19 OpenCL: 1.2)

I have Kernel size for NVIDIA GPUs set 16 but definitely still get UI lags when it's using GPU (but quite randomly likely related to it using the CPU at lot).

My understanding is the GPU workunits are not very useful at this point - I have disabled them.

My guess would be the rig that doesn't work has show file extensions turned off. So it ends up being .xml.txt or something... Just a guess.

Oh, if that bottleneck may be happening in primesieve the new versions has some more tweaks for that - (although last time they didn't have a noticeable impact)

https://github.com/kimwalisch/primesieve/blob/master/ChangeLog

Specifically 7.1:
primesieve-7.1 runs up to 30% faster on Intel Skylake-X CPUs!
The default sieve size is now (L2 cache size / 2). Using a sieve size
that is slightly smaller than the L2 cache size reduces the number
of L2 cache misses which improves performance on CPUs with slow L3
caches. primesieve-7.1 will also run slightly faster (< 3%) on most
other Intel CPUs.

Aside: is primesive used on OpenCL? I see that hasn't been updated on that branch for some time.

Noticed this post on the Boinc project site - https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/pull/2789

Either way this outcome may impact this project.

The applications were last published in September https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/apps.php

You can see how long they are recorded to take at Tasks here https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/home.php , and then see if there is an increase.

The only thing I've noticed is the number of new discoveries has for me, been non-existent for a time- explained in another thread.

On Linux I suggest installing the sysfs package so you can set ignore_nice_load [1]. Unfortunately even a fully niced process will be able to crank the CPU up.

NNT?
Just updating the project didn't help. I forgot to mention I'm running a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.. whoops.. No_Alt_Platform in config.

I also tried resetting my web preferences in Amicable and my local ones.

Decided to try adding the two projects I had on previous install.. Einstein and WCG.. didn't help, but Einstein didn't get a GPU workunit either... and they automatically gave me a log (https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/KZbkZsXbDp/) I can login to see why:
2018-04-29 02:18:20.3951 [PID=29417] [debug] [HOST#12590263] MSG(high) No work sent
2018-04-29 02:18:20.3951 [PID=29417] [debug] [HOST#12590263] MSG(high) see scheduler log messages on https://einsteinathome.org/host/12590263/log
2018-04-29 02:18:20.3951 [PID=29417] [debug] [HOST#12590263] MSG(high) Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo) is not available for your type of computer.

I stopped BOINC and apt installed nvidia-opencl-dev libgl1-mesa-dev mesa-common-dev ocl-icd-opencl-dev opencl-c-headers clinfo, and then Einstein@Home immediately filled up the nVidia jobs.
(I installed clinfo first and gave output indicating everything was fine, but obviously not..)

I also decided that installing nvidia-cuda-dev might get it to work for Amicable, but will see after some of the E@H jobs finish.

that is part of the confusing bit.. I never set up http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ at all on this machine... it's not listed as a project..

I've still gotten GPU tasks with that set before. I just turned that off in the project and locally and still got 0 tasks.
