Tasks on the RTX 2080 Ti are taking more than 1 Hour to Complete

Less than an hour on the GTX 1080 Ti on the Older Version and now Testing this New Version

GPU version is limited by CPU now, so it's not correct to compare two powerful GPUs here. You're basically comparing CPUs.

Hello everybody. The app I currently run on my machine is 2.18 AFAIR it's version didn't change.
I have neither a GTX 1080 Ti nor an RTX 2080 Ti which is bad. Glad the previous poster has them. But I have GTX 1070 and AMD (Boinc still keeps calling it "ATI") Radeon HD 7970.
When it comes to CPU I see now problem, it is Xeon E5-2658V3 ES capable of 2.4GHz clock and no more. It is not enough to give full load for GPUs mentioned above. Now I try to figure out how much central processor cores should I give to running bunches of 'Nvidia-assigned' and 'ATI-assigned' tasks, and what core weight should i define in project settings. Also I need to find out a way of different customisation of quantity concurrent tasks for Nvidia and ATI.

So taking 4 to 6 hours is normal now for tasks to complete?

Should we Disable HT or SMT on our Processors?

What should we now set Kernel size for NVIDIA GPUs to?
GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2080 Ti that is?

Is only a Coin Project now?

Hi bcavnaugh,

The GPU version is now severely limited by CPU and even a GTX 1050 will not achieve full utilization without a very powerful CPU to provide prime numbers for testing. At this stage, I recommend switching to CPU tasks and using GPU for other projects where there is minimal CPU overhead (Collatz, AP27 on PrimeGrid, etc.). I recently ran some tests with a GTX 1080 and GTX 1080ti and compared them to CPU tasks and the total CPU time per task was almost identical. Effectively; the GPU is doing almost nothing right now.

As an example of a potential configuration; I am presently using 9 threads for multi-threaded CPU tasks on my Ryzen 5 1600X and using the remaining 3 CPU threads to run GPU units for another project and for general computer use.

Regards,
Kellen

I was getting 3-5% util with 1 task. Not even enough load to make the card boost. They were around 1400-1500 MHz for Pascal cards less than 40c air cooled. I only ran 1 task...

Yep! looks like it is time to change to CPU or drop this BOINC Project.
