I'm curious if multiple cores make a difference in the computing time?

It doesn't seem the crunch time is that different at all.

On that same note, given a quad core processor for example, wouldn't 2 x 2 cores be more advantageous vs using all 4 cores?

The application scales perfectly, so you can expect N (physical) cores to be N times faster than 1 core.
